The West Gate Freeway Alliance has reached another project milestone with the final bridge beam being lifted into position this morning (Friday 5 June) at the new Bolte exit-ramp.
The final four bridge beams at the Montague Street intersection were also lifted into position last night (Thursday 4 June).
This brings the total number of beams lifted and placed into position across the entire West Gate Freeway Upgrade project to 326.
West Gate Freeway Alliance Manager, Michael Kalinowski said that this was a great achievement for the project, which commenced construction in May 2008.
"This is huge milestone for the project team which has lifted the 326 beams with a perfect safety record," Mr Kalinowski said.
"Full credit goes to the work crews in establishing, maintaining and adhering to excellent safety procedures and standards throughout the last twelve months," he said.
The bridge beam installations occurred both during normal working hours and in many instances overnight when the least number of people were affected.
"Overall, we are more than half way through the upgrade of the West Gate Freeway and work is progressing at a fast pace," Mr Kalinowski said.
"Over the next few months we'll be busy installing over 30 new gantries to the freeway as well as concrete barriers no the new bridges.
"Some of these works will be carried out overnight and some delays are expected. I would like to once again thank motorists and the local community for their patience during construction and urge them to drive safely through our work sites," he added.
The West Gate Freeway Upgrade is part of the $1.39 billion Monash-CityLink-West Gate (M1) Upgrade to improve safety and traffic flow along one of Victoria's busiest road corridors.
