To thank the community for their patience during the extensive road works, the West Gate Freeway Alliance hosted a community planting day on Saturday 1 August 2009.
This family-friendly event was held on Planet Ark's National Tree Day and created a lasting legacy of the project for future generations to enjoy.
The event was held near the North Port Light Rail Station in the Walter Reserve in Port Melbourne. The location was agreed together with the support of the City of Port Phillip and we would like to thank the city for allowing us to plant out this great site.
More than 2000 indigenous tube stock were planted at the event and a free BBQ lunch was provided to all volunteers on the day.
Thanks to all involved in the event - it was a fabulous success!
