Below are some examples of some common routes on the new West Gate Freeway with an accompanying video.
Westbound (heading away from the city)
Heading to the Bolte Bridge (including Tullamarine airport) from the Domain tunnel
You will need to follow the blue and yellow CityLink signs which read ‘Melb Airport / Bendigo’. After exiting the Domain tunnel, move into the left hand lanes. The new Bolte Bridge exit is about 100 metres past the existing Montague Street exit ramp. You will pass through one of the grey urban design portals. Once on the Bolte Bridge, follow the signs and the normal route to the airport.

Heading to the West Gate Bridge from Kings Way
Traffic entering the freeway at Kings Way and heading westbound will be separated from the main freeway on an elevated ramp. You will need to stay in the right hand lane on the new ramp, which passes through the grey urban design portal. Remain in the right hand lane and follow the green overhead signs that read ‘West Gate Bridge / Geelong’. The ramp will join the main freeway traffic – in the far left hand lane, which will then take you to the West Gate Bridge.

Eastbound (heading towards the city)
Heading to the Burnley Tunnel from the Bolte Bridge
To access the south eastern suburbs via the Burnley Tunnel, ensure you are in the middle lane on the Bolte Bridge (the left lane is only for traffic heading to Lorimer Street, the Docklands and Kings Way, and the right lane for traffic heading to the West Gate Bridge). From the middle lane, the new ramp will take you to join the far right hand lane of the West Gate Freeway. Follow the blue and yellow signs that read ‘S.E Suburbs’. To head into the Burnley tunnel, stay in one of the right hand lanes.

Heading to Kings Way from the Bolte Bridge
To access Kings Way, make sure you are in the left hand lane on the Bolte Bridge (the middle lane is only for Power Street or Burnley tunnel traffic) You will join the West Gate Freeway from the existing Bolte Bridge exit ramp - follow the green signs that read ‘Kings Way’. On the West Gate Freeway, after passing the Lorimer Street exit, you will merge right with traffic from the West Gate Bridge. On your way to the Kings Way exit you will pass through one of the grey urban design portals.
