The Monash section comprises of the Monash Freeway between the eastern end of CityLink at Glenferrie Road and South Gippsland Freeway. It is being delivered in three sections:
- The Glenferrie Road to Warrigal Road section is being delivered under an alliance contract between AbiGroup and SKM.
- The Warrigal Road to Jacksons Road section is being delivered by Negri Contractors.
- The Jacksons Road to South Gippsland Freeway section is being delivered by Fulton Hogan.
The specific works that form the Monash section of the project include:
- an additional lane in each direction between Hawthorn and Dandenong;
- Glenferrie Road to Warrigal Road will be widened on the outside of the current lanes;
- Warrigal Road to South Gippsland Freeway will be widened on the inside of the current lanes;
- widening of the bridges at Gardiners Creek, Ferntree Gully Road, Jacksons Road, Police Road, Gladstone Road and Dandenong Creek;
- widening of the Great Valley Road; and
- reconstruction of the ramps at High Street.
In addition, the project will include the introduction of an intelligent freeway management system to improve traffic flow and travel time reliability during peak times.
Construction commenced on the Monash Freeway in October 2007.
